I'm Shelley Breen.

I've been teaching swim lessons since 2005.  My first year, I taught 6 kids.  Boy, did I learn a lot. My passion for teaching swim lessons has only grown and intensified since that first summer.

I graduated from Grand Valley State University in 1995 with my Bachelors Degree in Nursing.  I've worked in the Operating Room for almost my entire career.  And I absolutely LOVE it.  I currently work at HDVCH in the Operating Room and the Congenital Cardiac Cath Lab. I also work at APC assisting anesthesiologists with care for patients needing outpatient procedures.  I am ACLS, PALS and BLS certified.

What you may not know about me is that I am an actual mermaid (just kidding) but I have been swimming for as long as I can possibly remember.  I started competitively swimming in elementary school and continued throughout high school.  I never remember a time where I didn't know how to swim.  It is my favorite form of exercise although I hate cold water.  I have extensive knowledge and experience in teaching swimmers at every skill level from beginners, who have never had a lesson to advanced swimmers, who need instruction in all 4 competitive swimming strokes.  Due to my demanding work schedule at the hospital, I teach swim lessons only as a side gig for a handful weeks out of the summer.  Because of this, I am not set up to teach adults or kids under 2.

I have been married since 1995 and have 5 beautiful kids: 3 boys and 2 girls and a ranging from 25 (who was married last May to a wonderful daughter-in-law) down to 16 years old.

I am blessed to say that God has given me this gift and skill of teaching swim lessons and I am grateful for the opportunity to teach your most precious cargo: your kids.

Thanks to all of my friends, family and swimmers who have supported me for so many years.  I would have never continued to teach for so long without you.
